Modern EPDM, GRP fibreglass and torch-on systems are long-lasting, warranted and quiet performers. What separates a 10 year roof from a 30 year roof is the detailing at upstands, edges and outlets, not the material on the packet.
Every flat roof lives or dies on the detail.Clarkson Roofing · Since 1985

A properly installed EPDM single-ply flat roof lasts 25 to 30 years, with many manufacturers backing the material with a 20 year warranty. Longevity depends on correct detailing at upstands, edge trims and outlets, which is where most failures start rather than in the field of the roof. Request a free flat roof survey.
No. GRP fibreglass has to be laid onto a clean, dry, structurally sound deck, usually OSB3. We strip the existing felt back to deck, replace any wet or spongy boards, then laminate the GRP in one continuous seamless finish.
We build warm deck as standard for any new flat roof or full re-cover, with rigid PIR insulation above the deck and the waterproof layer above that. Warm deck is the current best-practice specification for condensation control and thermal performance.
Yes. When we strip a flat roof for re-covering, it is the right moment to convert a cold deck to a warm deck build-up and add 100 to 150mm of PIR insulation above the deck. It usually pays back in comfort and heating cost within a few winters.
Yes. Flat roofs are well suited to ballasted or tilt-frame solar arrays, provided the covering and structure are sound. We coordinate with your solar installer so that any penetrations or ballast points are correctly detailed and warranted.
A flat roof is never truly flat. Current UK best practice is a minimum finished fall of 1 in 40 to shed water reliably. When we re-cover, we usually take the opportunity to correct falls with tapered insulation so ponding is designed out.
Yes. We work on domestic extensions, garages, dormers and small commercial units including shops, offices and light industrial. For larger commercial roofs we survey, quote and program the work around the tenant's trading hours.
Occasional ponding after heavy rain is not itself a defect, provided the covering is sound. Persistent ponding accelerates UV and biological breakdown and is a sign the falls are wrong. We correct falls with tapered insulation or timber firrings when we re-cover.
For repairs and partial patches we source matching membrane where possible. EPDM is black as standard, GRP can be finished in a range of standard colours including grey, slate and sandstone, and torch-on caps are available in slate grey and green mineral finishes.
Yes. Clarkson Roofing is fully insured. Materials carry the manufacturer warranty on top, typically 15 to 25 years.
